From the Himalayas to the Andes and the Chin mountains of Myanmar, I met time and again young girls with a fire that could burn anyone who as much as dared to look at them.

I share their photographs on Day 7: of Kālarātri, the 7th form of Navdurga. The FIERCEST form of Durga and she bestows courage and power, to make us fearless. These demons that she slays without compassion also refer to our inner demons. In Tantra, the term Kālarātri means darkness of the night, she destroys the darkness of ignorance (Kal means time, Ratri means night/darkness).

Let’s make our city girls just as fearless and empowered, sure of themselves, not slaves to media and impossible beauty standards imposed upon them from a young age.
